Read moreA typical school day at Futuris starts with a mentor class or regular subject lessons. Classes usually last 50 minutes and there are several breaks throughout the day. Besides the regular subjects like Dutch, English and maths, you also take practical classes depending on your profile choice, such as sports, cooking or technology. The day usually ends around 15:30.
In secondary school, you deal with several subject teachers for each subject, instead of one teacher. You have a fixed timetable with several subjects per day and learn to plan and deal with homework. In addition, secondary education emphasises independence and hands-on learning.
If you do not understand a lesson well or need help, you can always contact your teacher or mentor. Futuris also offers additional support through student coaches, remedial teachers and homework help.
In the lower years, pupils are offered both theoretical and practical subjects. In year 1, you will be taught Dutch, English, mathematics/accounting, human & social sciences, biology, art education, technology, music, care, physical education, mentoring lessons, profile hours and counselling hours. In year 2, physics/chemistry, German (for mavo students) and services & products (for basic/framework students) are added.
Futuris ensures a safe learning environment by actively addressing bullying behaviour and appointing a confidential advisor to whom pupils can turn. There is a bullying protocol and the mentoring team plays an important role in identifying and resolving conflicts.
Futuris prepares you for further education by teaching you both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The profile classes help you gain practical experience early on, while the mavo/havo classes are specifically aimed at moving on to havo. In addition, we offer guidance in the choice of subsequent courses.
The open days are a good opportunity to explore Futuris, meet teachers and students and soak up the atmosphere. In school year 2024/25, the open days will take place on Wednesday 29 January 2025 and Thursday 30 January 2025.
Registration for Futuris is done through the Kernprocedure Amstelland. As a parent/guardian, you will receive a login code from your child’s primary school. This allows you to register him or her digitally. More information about the application procedure can be found here on our website.
Futuris stands out for its strong focus on hands-on education and personal development. We offer a wide range of profile classes, where pupils can discover and develop their talents. In addition, Futuris offers a lot of personal guidance and support for each pupil, focusing on both learning achievements and social-emotional development.
Futuris offers vmbo-basis, vmbo-kader, vmbo-theoretical (mavo) and mavo/havo. You can read more on the page about learning pathways. We also have International Transition Classes (ISK) for non-native newcomers who do not yet speak sufficient Dutch to enter regular education.
At Futuris, we have five profile classes: sports, technology, expression, cooking and mavo/havo. When you enter our school in the first year, you can choose one of the five profile classes. You follow these classes throughout your bridging period, which lasts two years. In the profile classes, you take weekly classes that match your interests and talents.
