Profile classes

When you join Futuris in the bridge class, you choose one of our five profile classes: expression, technology, sports, cooking and mavo/havo. The profile classes are completely tailored to your interests and talents. Whether you like creativity, technology, sport, cooking or preparing for havo, there is always a profile to suit you.

Expression

If you are creative, then this profile is for you!

For two years, you will have three hours of extra expression classes outside the regular classes. During classes, you will learn a range of techniques, with an emphasis on creative skills, visual arts, drama, dance and music.

Through additional expression subjects, you will have the opportunity to express and further develop your talent, emotions and thoughts in a creative way.

Together, we will delve deeper by going on excursions together, attending workshops and hosting different guest teachers. During the lessons and projects, there will be room for discovery, cooperation, fun and reflection!

Technology

If technology is totally your thing, then this profile suits you perfectly! One afternoon a week, you will be taught everything to do with engineering and technology. For example, you will learn how to make a simple game, build a website or design technical products. You will also learn to research and experiment.

By being involved with technology a lot, you develop strategic thinking, collaboration and presentation skills. These are important skills for the future!

Cooking

If you have a talent for cooking and baking, this profile is for you. You will be taught cooking and baking techniques one afternoon a week, learning all about healthy eating, reading recipes, preparing dishes beautifully and even setting and serving tables.

By being involved in cooking and baking, you will develop not only culinary skills, but also your talents for organising, cooperating and presenting. This will help you now, but also in your future life!

Sports

Do you love sports and want to get even better at it? Then the Sport profile is for you. Every week, you will have an extra afternoon of challenging sports, which go beyond the regular PE lessons. From new sports to perhaps swimming, you will have plenty of opportunities to develop yourself here.

Mavo/havo

Do you have a vmbo-t or vmbo-t/havo recommendation and would you like to prepare yourself for a transfer to havo 3? Then the Mavo/havo profile is for you! During the profile lessons, you are prepared for the transition from mavo 2 to havo 3. Our school works closely together with the HWC and the CSB.

If you do not understand a lesson well or need help, you can always contact your teacher or mentor. Futuris also offers additional support through student coaches, remedial teachers and homework help.

Futuris ensures a safe learning environment by actively addressing bullying behaviour and appointing a confidential advisor to whom pupils can turn. There is a bullying protocol and the mentoring team plays an important role in identifying and resolving conflicts.

In the lower years, pupils are offered both theoretical and practical subjects. In year 1, you will be taught Dutch, English, mathematics/math, human & social sciences, biology, art education, technology, music, care, physical education, mentoring lessons, profile hours and counselling hours. In year 2, physics/chemistry, German (for mavo students) and services & products (for basic/framework students) are added.

Futuris prepares you for further education by teaching you both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The profile classes help you gain practical experience early on, while the mavo/havo classes are specifically aimed at moving on to havo. In addition, we offer guidance in the choice of subsequent courses.

At Futuris, we not only prepare you for an exam, but also make sure you get the skills you will need in the future. Whatever you are going to do. We call these skills the 21st century skills and they are important for your personal and professional growth. You can think about:

  • Communication: communicating effectively with others.
  • Collaboration: learning to work in teams.
  • Dealing with ICT: working with computers and other technologies.
  • Creativity: developing your own ideas and coming up with solutions.
  • Critical thinking: analysing and assessing information.
  • Problem solving: finding practical and smart solutions to challenges.
  • Social & cultural skills: interact well with others, regardless of their background.
  • Control over own actions: working independently and taking responsibility for your own learning.

Futuris offers vmbo-basis, vmbo-kader, vmbo-theoretical (mavo) and mavo/havo. You can read more about this on the page about learning pathways. We also have International Transition Classes (ISK) for non-native newcomers who do not yet speak sufficient Dutch to enter regular education.

At Futuris, we have five profile classes: sports, technology, expression, cooking and mavo/havo. When you enter our school in the first year, you can choose one of the five profile classes. You follow these classes throughout your bridging period, which lasts two years. In the profile classes, you take weekly classes that match your interests and talents.
