On Futuris

All programmes at Futuris last four years. You start in the two-year lower cycle and then move on to the upper cycle, which also lasts two years. However your school career progresses, we make sure you are well prepared for your further education, the job market and society. Because you can choose many different things, you have the opportunity to discover what you like and what you are good at. That makes learning a lot more fun and motivating!

This is what your schooling looks like

During the first two years of your education with us, you will stay in the undergrad. Then you move on to the superstructure.

The substructure: learning pathways

Welcome to the junior year at Futuris! In the two-year bridging period (class 1 and class 2), you are given every opportunity to discover your talents and grow at your own pace. Based on your primary school recommendation, your CITO score and other test data, you will be placed in a bridge class that suits you. We have classes for various learning pathways: vmbo-basis, vmbo-kader, mavo and mavo/havo. Sometimes we combine these learning paths in one class. Are you in the mavo/havo class? If everything goes well, you can move on to havo 3 after two years!

The substructure: profile classes

At Futuris, you get the chance to work on what you like and what you are good at. In the lower grades, you work on a profile subject for two hours every week. There, you learn as much as possible by doing things yourself. You can choose from the following profiles: expression, sports, technology, cooking and mavo/havo.

The superstructure

The vast majority of pupils continue in the upper secondary school after the second year, where you study the subjects and profiles you choose! If you follow the vmbo-basis or vmbo-kader learning programme, you will choose a vocational subject cluster in the second year and start in the third year. If you take vmbo-tl or mavo/havo, you will not choose a vocational subject cluster. Many pupils from the mavo/havo class move on to havo at another school after the second year.

Are you looking for information about Futuris? Chances are you’ll find it in the school guide. From the curriculum to school rules and all kinds of practical matters: you can read about it in the school guide.

If you do not understand a lesson well or need help, you can always contact your teacher or mentor. Futuris also offers additional support through student coaches, remedial teachers and homework help.

Futuris provides a safe learning environment by actively addressing bullying behaviour and appointing a confidential advisor to whom pupils can turn. There is a bullying protocol and the mentoring team plays an important role in identifying and resolving conflicts.

In the lower years, pupils are offered both theoretical and practical subjects. In year 1, you will be taught Dutch, English, mathematics/math, human & social sciences, biology, art education, technology, music, care, physical education, mentoring lessons, profile hours and counselling hours. In year 2, physics/chemistry, German (for mavo students) and services & products (for basic/framework students) are added.

Futuris prepares you for further education by teaching you both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The profile classes help you gain practical experience early on, while the mavo/havo classes are specifically aimed at moving on to havo. In addition, we offer guidance in the choice of subsequent courses.

At Futuris, we not only prepare you for an exam, but also make sure you get the skills you will need in the future. Whatever you are going to do. We call these skills the 21st century skills and they are important for your personal and professional growth. You can think about:

  • Communication: communicating effectively with others.
  • Collaboration: learning to work in teams.
  • Dealing with ICT: working with computers and other technologies.
  • Creativity: developing your own ideas and coming up with solutions.
  • Critical thinking: analysing and assessing information.
  • Problem solving: finding practical and smart solutions to challenges.
  • Social & cultural skills: interact well with others, regardless of their background.
  • Control over own actions: working independently and taking responsibility for your own learning.

Futuris offers vmbo-basis, vmbo-kader, vmbo-theoretical (mavo) and mavo/havo. You can read more about this on the page about learning pathways. We also have International Transition Classes (ISK) for non-native newcomers who do not yet speak sufficient Dutch to enter regular education.

At Futuris, we have five profile classes: sports, technology, expression, cooking and mavo/havo. When you enter our school in the first year, you can choose one of the five profile classes. You follow these classes throughout your bridging period, which lasts two years. In the profile classes, you take weekly classes that match your interests and talents.
